About the Workshop
Founded by artisan Marika Kotani, our studio honors generations of bamboo craftsmanship. Every object is shaped patiently, guided by respect for materials and tradition.
The philosophy is rooted in wabi-sabi: quiet refinement, impermanence, and natural beauty. Each basket or utensil tells a story, shaped by hand and time.
Materials & Process
We begin by selecting the finest local bamboos, chosen for their supple texture and distinctive color. Each stalk is split and shaped by hand, preserving its unique character.
The weaving process reveals the subtle complexities and strength of bamboo. Traditional patterns, passed down through generations, are woven with meticulous attention in small, focused batches.
Finishing is achieved with natural oils and burnishing, enhancing both durability and tactile quality. Close observation reveals each delicate fiber, celebrating the material’s quiet vitality.
